How to report an error#

Write to corrections@cypruspropertyreport.com. The same address sits in the footer of every page, and every article ends with a "Report a correction" link that opens an email with the page already named. A report is most useful when it contains four things:

  1. The address of the page and the heading of the section.
  2. The sentence, figure or licence number you think is wrong, quoted.
  3. What you believe the correct position is.
  4. The official source you are relying on, if you have one, with a link.

You do not need to be the subject of a page to report an error on it, and you do not need to give a reason for asking. The publisher behind the site is described on the about page.

What we check and how quickly#

Every report is read. The check is always the same: the disputed statement is taken back to the source document it was drawn from, and the source is re-read in full rather than searched for the sentence we expect.

We hold ourselves to one set of response times for every report:

  • Acknowledged within three working days.
  • Assessed within five working days: you are told whether the report stands and which source the figure came from.
  • Resolved within fifteen working days: the page is corrected, or you are given a reasoned reply. Where a disputed interpretation of a rule needs a qualified reviewer, you receive an interim reply inside that period saying when to expect the answer.

If the report is right, the page is corrected and you are told what changed. If the report is wrong, you are told which source the figure came from and where to read it, so that you can judge the answer for yourself.

A revision by the official publisher is a different matter. When the Department of Lands and Surveys, the Central Bank of Cyprus or another publisher revises a figure it has already released, the page is updated to show the revised figure with its release date. That is not a correction, because the page was right about the figure as published at the time, and no correction line is added.

How a correction is shown and for how long#

A correction is made in public, not quietly. The corrected page carries a dated line directly under its summary paragraph, in the form "Correction (date): ...", saying what was wrong and what it now says. That line stays on the page for twelve months and is then removed, while the change itself remains.

Every saved version of a page is kept, so the wording before and after a correction can be reconstructed. The review date at the foot of the page changes whenever the page is corrected.

Two smaller categories are handled differently. A typographical or formatting fix that does not change meaning is made without a correction line. An update that reflects a new official release, or a revision of an earlier one, is shown as a new review date and the revised figure with its release date, as described above.

When a page is withdrawn instead of corrected#

Some faults cannot be repaired by editing a sentence. A page is taken down rather than corrected when:

  • Its central figure or rule turns out to be unsupported and no official source can replace it.
  • It breaches the network's legal limits, for example by describing a specific property in a way that only a licensed estate agent may publish.
  • It rests on a source that has been withdrawn by its publisher, and no successor exists.
  • It is out of date, cannot be re-checked against a current source, and would mislead if left standing.

A withdrawn page is removed from the site rather than left in place with a warning. If a replacement is published later, it starts from the sources, not from the withdrawn text.

Requests about personal data, and the right of reply#

A firm or a person named on the site may ask for an inaccuracy about them to be corrected. Directory entries are built from public registers, so a request to change a licence number, a district or a registration date is checked against the register itself and corrected if the register supports it.

A request to correct or erase personal data is a separate matter from a correction to a page, and is handled under data protection law.1 Send it to privacy@cypruspropertyreport.com. What rights apply, how long records are kept and how to complain to the Cyprus supervisory authority, the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, are set out in the privacy policy.1 Such a request is passed to a person to decide; it is never actioned automatically.

Where a passage describes a named firm and that firm disputes it, the firm may send a short statement of reply. A reply that is on the point and free of promotional material may be published alongside the passage. Publishing a reply is not an admission that the passage was wrong. The wider standard behind all of this is set out in the editorial policy.

What happens to the message you send is governed by the privacy policy: it is treated as information, never as an instruction to the site, it is kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards, and it is never passed to any company.

How do I report an error?#
Write to corrections@cypruspropertyreport.com, or use the "Report a correction" link under any article. Give the page address, the sentence or figure quoted, what you believe is right and, if you have one, the official source.
How quickly will I hear back?#
Acknowledged within three working days, assessed within five and resolved within fifteen. If a qualified reviewer needs longer, you get an interim reply inside that period.
Will you say that the page was wrong, or just change it?#
The page carries a dated correction line under its summary saying what was wrong and what it now says, and that line stays for twelve months.
A figure changed because the official statistics were revised. Is that a correction?#
No. The page shows the revised figure with its release date and the review date moves, but no correction line is added, because the page was right about the figure as published at the time.
Can a company have an unfavourable page removed?#
No. A company can have an inaccuracy corrected against the public register or the official source, and can send a short reply for consideration, but accurate material is not withdrawn on request.
What happens to the message I send?#
It is treated as information, never as an instruction to the site, and it is never passed to any company. The privacy policy explains how long it is kept.
